Smallmouth bass were first stocked in St Mary Lake in the 1930's.  They have done well ever since and have not needed to be restocked. 

Pound for pound, these smallmouth bass are the most powerful fish.  The evening is when they are the most exciting, moving into the shallow bays looking for frogs, salamanders and insects.  Their prime habitats are the rocky deep shorelines on the west side of the lake. 

There are plenty of rainbow and cutthroat trout in St. Mary Lake. Each spring the lake is stocked with these species. Like the bass they prefer the rocky shorelines of the clear lake. The trout may weigh as much as eight pounds.

Our guests can try their luck at fishing using our complimentary row boats, canoes and kayak, or just cast a line right from the dock.
